Reflections of You

Reflections

You’ve heard it said that “you are the sum total of the five people you spend the most time with.”

What is also true is that you are the reflection of what you take in as nourishment. Be it the food that you eat or the TV that you watch, or the music you listen to… or the gossip that you give attention to.

Reflected TreeThere is a reason why pain exists. Pain signals that there is a problem that needs attending to. Interestingly enough, when pain is extreme, the body will ‘tone down’ the pain or go into a shock in order to preserve the body. The reason why this is so, is because for the body to truly feel the depth of the pain it’s in, the body would not be able to bear it and the body would die.

Obviously, some types of pain are so incredibly unbearable that people indeed die from their injuries.

But what about emotional pain? Do people ever die from emotional or mental pain?

As with physical pain, emotional pain is felt quite clearly when an event occurs that pricks the heart or torments the mind and soul. When this pain continues, the heart … the mind … and the soul become numb to the pain. There is a shut-down of emotions. The body continues to exist – but in an altered state.

When we feed off of constant negativity, violence, gossip and the hateful emotions of others on a consistent basis, we do the same thing – we shut down in a numbness that appears to protect us. This numbness, in fact is denial. Denial feeds deception and pumps toxicity into the mind, soul, spirit and heart of the person.

Sick childThe first step is to NOTICE what your vital signs are. Where is your energy level? What thoughts roll through your mind the most? What consistent internal tapes are you playing in your heart and mind? What triggers set you off and cause you to attack other people verbally or emotionally? What repeating results are you getting that are ‘death’ producing, rather than ‘life’ producing?

Before you can change anything, you must change internally. That happens when you begin to NOTICE the world around you. How do people react to you? What is your marriage like? Who are you surrounding yourself with? What are you feeding on?

When you wake-up to the world around YOU and what your patterns and habits are, then you have begun healing. Now is the time to change those things, remove toxic relationships or distance yourself from them. Begin to take in nourishment to feed your soul and your mind and heal your body.

Check out my Toolbox posts to help you begin this journey of renewing your mind. Notice what your thoughts dwell on and forgive those who are the center of that negativity. Realize that to forgive is to release. Learn from the experience because … those difficult people came into your life to teach you something nobody else could.

Renew your mind, heal your heart, feed your soul.

“Life and death are in the power of the tongue … ” Proverbs 18:21

What begins with you, will produce the fruit in your life, and you will see those results and ‘eat’ those results. It all begins with you. What are you feeding on? Do you know why?

Now your journey begins …
