Healing Your Self Image

Healing your self image

What you were born with as a baby
quickly becomes shaped by the people and events around you.

Those blemishes, scratches, scars and weathering continue to appear well into adulthood.

Baby ShannonOver time, the vitality of who you were which included your dreams and expanded awareness of the world around you, becomes dull and lifeless as the stresses of your day-to-day existence wear on.

The temptation is to look at what is, and what was, and to just toss it all in the garbage heap as hopelessly lost. Whether through disappointments or repeated abuse, the real you appears long lost.

Just as with this photo, the one shred of “I just can’t throw this away” was all that was needed to put the photo into the hands of a capable artist.

Obtaining capable, talented, intuitive (yes, I said that word) and trained counselors, therapists and other professionals (such as the wide range of alternative healers that we have access to in regards to detoxifying the body, energy work, acupuncture, physical training, etc.), is an intelligent and loving thing to give yourself.

Most importantly, giving yourself the gift of taking it one ‘scratch’ at a time is necessary. There are no magic wands. It takes time and a skilled eye to spot the blemishes and imperfections that affect your identity and self worth.

As those areas are attended to and healed, new life flushes in, just like the color in the video below flushes new life into the once beaten image. There is a scripture verse that reflects this very thing beautifully:

“… old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” 2 Corinthians 5:17

Watch this fascinating video of a photo retouch by this talented artist as a perfect metaphor to taking the necessary time and attending to details …
